ALP candidate for Flynn, Matt Burnett, will resume duties as Gladstone Mayor this week after formally conceding defeat in the Federal Election.<\/p>\n

Mr Burnett achieved an almost 7 per cent swing to Labor on a two-party preferred basis – and outpolled LNP candidate Colin Boyce in primary votes – but it was not enough to topple the LNP stronghold on Flynn.<\/p>\n

Official Australian Electoral Commission results on Thursday showed Mr Burnett achieved 25,332 primary votes, ahead of Mr Boyce with 23,592.<\/p>\n

The First Preference count also had the pair neck-and-neck: 26,877 votes (Burnett) to 26,870 (Boyce).<\/p>\n

However, on a two-candidate preferred basis, the positions were swapped with Mr Boyce ahead with 39,569 votes to 36,330.<\/p>\n

The AEC results show that Mr Boyce was the favoured candidate in the South Burnett with voters at local booths supporting him:<\/strong><\/p>\n
