The death toll from COVID-19 in the Darling Downs Health region has risen to 36, with six fatalities reported by Queensland Health since Monday.<\/p>\n

Across Queensland, the toll now stands at 1009 deaths since the pandemic began, with all but seven occurring since the borders were reopened on December 13.<\/p>\n

Ten deaths were reported during the past 24 hours.<\/p>\n

The latest statistics show a total of 1149 people have officially contracted COVID-19 in the South Burnett Regional Council area since March 2020, including 59 cases since May 1 this year – although the true figure, based on anecdotal reports, would be much higher.<\/p>\n

When the borders reopened on December 13 there had been just three confirmed cases in the South Burnett and 68 in the Darling Downs Health region, including two deaths.<\/p>\n

There were officially 35,371 active COVID-19 cases in Queensland on Wednesday, including 5584 confirmed during the latest 24-hour reporting period.<\/strong><\/p>\n

However, the true level of infection is likely to be higher, with not all people registering a positive Rapid Antigen Test reporting their condition to Queensland Health, and people with mild symptoms not getting tested.<\/p>\n

A total of 426 people were being treated for COVID-19 in Queensland hospitals, including 15 in intensive care units.<\/p>\n

Officially 1,154,678 people have contracted COVID-19 in Queensland since the pandemic began, including 36,035 First Nations residents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
