Toowoomba Regional Council\u2019s Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) moved to “lean forward” status on Thursday morning as persistent rain continued to cause localised flooding.<\/p>\n

A Council spokesperson said Cressbrook and Perseverance dams were spilling and Council crews were undertaking 24-hour on-site monitoring of the situation as the rain continued.<\/p>\n

Mayor Paul Antonio said the LGMG moving to “lean forward” meant resources and personnel were on standby to be mobilised should the situation worsen.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe LDMG is co-ordinating with relevant emergency services and will monitor advice and information from the Bureau of Meteorology,\u201d Mayor Antonio said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf residents were impacted during the February\/March rain event they should make preparations now for this predicted event.<\/p>\n

\u201cDue to the large amount of rainfall we\u2019ve had this year already, our ground remains saturated which means any extra rainfall will now build up, rather than soaking into the ground.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the February\/March rain event we tragically lost two lives in the Toowoomba region with people driving through flooded water.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t want to see a repeat of this should the predicted wet weather flood roads again so we ask motorists to please drive carefully.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s impossible for Council to sign every defect and danger on the roads so be alert and drive to the conditions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI cannot stress this highly enough \u2013 if it\u2019s flooded, forget it.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we continue to monitor the situation, I would simply ask residents to be alert and not alarmed.<\/p>\n

\u201cProperty owners who need assistance are advised to contact the State Emergency Service on 13-25-00.<\/p>\n
