Cherbourg residents and motorists on the Bunya and Burnett highways will soon have better mobile phone coverage thanks to a new Telstra\u00a04G macro base station.<\/p>\n

The $1.8 million project has been jointly funded by the Federal Government ($920,025), the State Government ($454,350) and Telstra ($458,125).<\/p>\n

Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said the macro site would improve 4G coverage to 1847 premises in Cherbourg and boost connectivity on 16km of the Bunya Highway and 5.8km of the Burnett Highway.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis upgrade to mobile phone coverage will help keep families connected to their loved ones and improve opportunities for businesses to grow,\u201d Mr O\u2019Brien said.<\/p>\n

\u201cImportantly, it will also help ensure that people can access vital telehealth and mental health services, and reach assistance in case of health emergencies and natural disasters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cherbourg mayor Elvie Sandow thanked the Federal Government for supporting the continued growth of the Cherbourg community, which she said had a critical need for reliable and fast internet access.<\/strong><\/p>\n
