The recent announcement of $3.4 million in Federal funding for adult mental health has been welcomed by South Burnett councillors.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said a “Head to Health\u201d adult mental health satellite service would be established in Kingaroy to service the South Burnett region.<\/p>\n

Mayor Brett Otto said this was a great step forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been pleased to support the local Stakeholder Consultative Committee working with Councillor (Danita) Potter, our CEO (Mark Pitt), health care agencies and professionals to bring this to our region,\u201d Mayor Otto said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to thank all involved locally for their dedication and commitment to the health needs of our community and acknowledge the Australian Government for providing this much-needed funding.<\/p>\n

\u201cCouncil will continue to work with government at all levels and persuasions to represent the needs of the people of the South Burnett.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cr Potter said the Commonwealth funding would be crucial in addressing some of the significant mental health care challenges in the region, with the South Burnett\u2019s psychological distress and suicide rates well above Queensland averages.<\/p>\n

Cr Kathy Duff, who travelled to Canberra with Mayor Otto and Cr Kirstie Schumacher in June last year to help put the South Burnett\u2019s case for mental health funding, said it was great that the South Burnett’s voice had been heard.<\/p>\n

She said Minister Littleproud\u2019s announcement was aimed at helping the most vulnerable residents in the local community.<\/p>\n
