Nanango and District Kindergarten Association president Maxine Whitbread was welcoming visitors back to the 50th birthday celebrations<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Students at the Nanango Kindergarten have been “learning through play” for an amazing 50 years.<\/p>\n

The kindergarten, located in Gipps Street, celebrated its 50th birthday at the weekend with a sausage sizzle and open day for past students and their families.<\/p>\n

There was also live music, historic displays and a slide show that depicted the kindergarten through the years.<\/p>\n

The Nanango Kindy building has been providing an educational start for district children for many years. It was originally the old Bullcamp School, and then the Mt Stanley School before being shifted to Gipps Street for the use of the kindergarten.<\/p>\n

Nanango and District Kindergarten president Maxine Whitbread greeted visitors at the gate as they streamed in.<\/p>\n

Amongst them was Jill Campbell (nee Gray), who was one of the first students at the school in 1963, and her mother Jean Gray, who was on the original kindy committee.<\/p>\n

Also busy on the day was kindy director Julie Timms, from Nanango, who has been at the kindergarten for 22 years.<\/p>\n

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington was guest speaker at the celebration.<\/p>\n

She congratulated the current committee, as well as all the previous committees and “the mums and dads”, for building the kindy into what it is today.<\/p>\n

“I appreciate the hard work that goes into building a facility like this,” she said.<\/p>\n

“It is an absolute credit to you.”<\/p>\n
