The second annual South Burnett Express Rail Trail Relay has been hailed a success after more than 100 runners took over a section of the South Burnett Rail Trail on Monday.<\/p>\n

The relay run was organised by the Ashgrove Rangers Athletics Club from Brisbane.<\/p>\n

Club president Dan Murray told southburnett.com.au it<\/strong> had been a fantastic day and the track had been really fast.<\/p>\n

He said relay runs were becoming rare so the club was hoping to build the South Burnett event into something really big in future years, with more teams coming from across Queensland and interstate.<\/p>\n

Ten teams took part in Monday’s event, including some local runners.<\/p>\n

Each team had to complete 12 legs – each about 5km long – between Kingaroy to Wondai and back.<\/p>\n

One all-South Burnett team, the “Nutty Relay Runners”, was decked out in matching shirts promoting the Wondai Country Running Festival.<\/p>\n

Michelle Hansen, from Kingaroy, said the relay had been a whole lot of fun, with the Nutty team coming in fourth place overall.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The winners were the Lockyer Legends Team A.<\/p>\n

The Rangers’ first event was held in October last year but the club decided the May long weekend would be the perfect fit for the 2022 event.<\/p>\n

After the last runners returned to Kingaroy, they had the opportunity to relax in O’Neill Square and enjoy a drink, courtesy of sponsors Ballistic Beer Co, and a hamburger crafted by the Kingaroy Scouts.<\/p>\n

Michelle said some of the runners from other teams had indicated they would be returning to the South Burnett for the Wondai event on June 25-26.<\/p>\n
