Linda Thomas, Ros Heit and Gayle Carroll were kept busy in Kumbia Hall’s kitchen on Friday, serving up dinner and desserts for a big crowd of hungry guests at the Cheap As Chips Italian Night<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Kumbia Hall Committee’s quarterly “Cheap As Chips” dinner nights are proving to be a winner for both the Hall Committee and the community.<\/p>\n

The idea to hold quarterly dinners came from committee member Linda Thomas, who runs the Cup & Saucer Bed and Breakfast just a few doors away from the Hall.<\/p>\n

They were launched with a Fish and Chips night in April last year, and since then have returned as a Mexican Night, an Oktoberfest and an all-Aussie foods night.<\/p>\n

On Friday, they celebrated their first anniversary with an Italian Night offering an all-you-can eat mix of ravioli, tortellini, chicken pasta bake and bolognaise, followed by a dessert of tiramisu and zabaglione, tea and coffee.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In between courses, guests were serenaded with a soundtrack of Italian music and played two rounds of trivia – one based on Italian subjects, the other on general knowledge questions – where the winners were rewarded with chocolate bars.<\/p>\n

Guests could also buy tickets in a raffle offering a meat tray, a bottle of wine and chocolates as first, second and third prizes, or simply chat with family and friends at rows of tables lining the Hall’s supper room.<\/p>\n

Friday night’s dinner – which cost just $10 for adults or $25 for a family of four – attracted close to 60 guests.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They voted that the next dinner, which will be held in July, will have an American Independence Day theme with burgers and hot dogs for the main course and probably apple pie and brownies for dessert.<\/p>\n

Linda said the dinners were a useful fundraiser for the Hall Committee, but also played a much more important role in helping to bring the community together.<\/p>\n

She said that over the past two years the pandemic had isolated many people, but the dinners were a fun way to help them get back out and socialise.<\/p>\n

While the date of the next dinner has yet to be decided, guests can phone Linda on 0428-447-581 to leave their contact details or reserve seats.<\/strong><\/p>\n
