May 3, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n

Police are investigating a fire which destroyed a house in Broadway Street, Cherbourg, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

Emergency services were called to the blaze about 2:15am.<\/p>\n

Four fire crews attended and found the single-storey timber building well alight when they arrived.<\/p>\n

They worked to extinguish the blaze but could do nothing to save the building, which was destroyed.<\/p>\n

Firefighters remained on scene until about 4:30am, ensuring the area was safe.<\/p>\n

A police spokesperson said investigators were treating the cause of the fire as suspicious at this stage.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“It looks like it may have been deliberately lit,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

A fire investigator was on site on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

Police said the building was unoccupied.<\/p>\n

UPDATE May 9, 2022:<\/strong> Police believe a small grass fire lit in Broadway Street about midnight by a number of suspects spread to the house which then caught on fire. Investigations are continuing into the incident.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
