{"id":317399,"date":"2022-05-02T15:21:22","date_gmt":"2022-05-02T05:21:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=317399"},"modified":"2022-05-02T15:22:04","modified_gmt":"2022-05-02T05:22:04","slug":"lgaq-welcomes-highway-promise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2022\/05\/02\/lgaq-welcomes-highway-promise\/","title":{"rendered":"LGAQ Welcomes Highway Promise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>May 2, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Local Government Association of Queensland has welcomed a $400 million LNP election promise to upgrade key roads servicing the cattle and agricultural industries &#8211; including a stretch of the Burnett Highway south of Biloela.<\/p>\n<p>LGAQ CEO Alison Smith said the funding for Queensland\u2019s Beef Corridors \u2013 a strategic supply network of roads stretching more than 2000km \u2013 would provide a significant boost to local economies.<\/p>\n<p>The commitment will pay for the sealing of 457km of roads at a cost of $300 million, with the remaining $100 million being used to extend heavy vehicle corridors along the Dawson, Leichhardt and Burnett highways.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Federal commitment will meet up to 80 per cent of the total cost to deliver the upgrades.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a significant win for the prosperity of local towns and communities that rely so heavily on the economic benefits generated by this road network and the industries that rely on it,\u201d Ms Smith said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is also a resounding endorsement of the dedicated Central Highlands, Rockhampton, Isaac, Barcaldine, Blackall-Tambo, Woorabinda, Banana and Gladstone mayors who joined forces to vigorously lobby for urgent improvements through their Queensland Beef Corridors campaign, and I want to thank Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce and his colleagues for listening to this advocacy and making this crucial commitment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese Mayors deserve great credit for their advocacy on behalf of their communities and this vital roads network.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ironically, Gladstone mayor Matt Burnett &#8211; one of the seven mayors who was pushing for the upgrades &#8211; is a candidate for the ALP in Flynn at the upcoming Federal Election.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>External link: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qldbeefcorridors.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Qld Beef Corridors<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Local Government Association of Queensland has welcomed a $400 million LNP election promise to upgrade key roads servicing the cattle and agricultural industries &#8211; including a stretch of the Burnett Highway south of Biloela.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":295323,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3,36],"tags":[1134],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
