Kingaroy businessman Ken Mills was officially presented with his 2022 Citizen Of The Year Award by South Burnett mayor Brett Otto on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The award would normally have been given out at the region’s annual Australia Day Awards, which were scheduled to have been held in Blackbutt in January.<\/p>\n

But after the Omicron outbreak forced the cancellation of the\u00a0 presentations, the Council released a list of 2022’s nominees and winners with the intention of personally presenting them with their official certificates at a better time.<\/p>\n

For Ken, that time arrived on Saturday as he was compering a LandCruiser Exhibition Day at his River Road business in Kingaroy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The day was helping to raise funds for the Long Drive For Drought and Drought Angels.<\/p>\n

The fun event encouraged LandCruiser owners to bring along their vehicles to compete for fuel voucher prizes across five categories: Most Original, Toughest, Most Insta-worthy, Best Farm Rig and Most Likely To Be Used For Spare Parts.<\/p>\n

Between 150 and 200 enthusiasts took part, including one particularly keen competitor who used a truck to haul three rustbuckets for judging in the “Most Likely To Be Used For Spare Parts” category.<\/p>\n

Mayor Otto used the day as an opportunity to present the region’s top Australia Day Award, which recognised Ken’s long-standing support for community events and sporting groups.<\/p>\n

The Mayor was accompanied by Crs Kathy Duff, Gavin Jones, Danita Potter and Scott Henschen, as well as CEO Mark Pitt.<\/p>\n

Footnote:<\/strong> The LandCruiser Exhibition Day raised more than $5000 for the two drought assistance programs.<\/p>\n
