The South Burnett Regional Council will donate six of its ride-on mowers to South Burnett community groups.<\/p>\n

The six mowers have been used by outdoor staff and will be replaced this year as part of the Council’s regular asset renewal program.<\/p>\n

Recipients will need to take over the ongoing maintenance and running costs of the mowers, which have been regularly serviced and are in good condition.<\/p>\n

The idea was suggested at Wednesday’s Corporate standing committee meeting by Mayor Brett Otto, and seconded by Cr Kirstie Schumacher.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mayor Otto told the meeting there were many not-for-profit community groups across the region who could benefit from having access to mowing equipment.<\/p>\n

This included groups that maintain land through some form of tenure arrangement with Council or which may be offering to mow public areas to reduce Council’s costs.<\/p>\n

The six mowers – two Iseki zero-turn mowers, three Iseki front decks and a John Deere front deck – would normally be sold at auction for between $3500 to $6000.<\/p>\n

But Mayor Otto said the capital loss Council would incur by giving the mowers away rather than auctioning them was a small price to pay for the benefits they could produce.<\/p>\n

The Mayor’s motion was carried unanimously.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Council will now call for expressions of interest from South Burnett not-for-profit community groups, with priority given to those that are offering to maintain Council-controlled land.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
