April 20, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n

Why did Australians go to Gallipoli? That’s the question a special presentation by local author Dr Les Henning hopes to answer on Friday morning.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The free talk, hosted by the Kingaroy-Memerambi RSL Sub-Branch, will also cover the origins of World War I and how the tradition of holding Anzac Day ceremonies has evolved since that fateful landing on April 25, 1915.<\/p>\n

Did you know that Kingaroy’s first Anzac Day ceremony was held just a year later, in 1916?<\/p>\n

And that the first Anzac Day march in Kingaroy was held in 1919?<\/p>\n

The pre-Anzac Day talk will be held in the Kingaroy Town Hall Supper Room from 9:00am to 11:00am on Friday (April 22).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Morning tea will be provided by the Sub-Branch.<\/p>\n

This is the second talk that Dr Henning has held in Kingaroy focussing on World War I.<\/p>\n

In November last year, he explored the “facts and figures”, ie. the cost in pounds, shillings and pence, of the Great War during a pre-Remembrance Day talk.<\/p>\n
