The South Burnett Thrashers came up against 2012 premiers Rangers during their first home match of the season in Kingaroy on Saturday … and gave the local crowd something to cheer about.<\/p>\n

Coming off a win last week, the Thrashers had their tails up but it was always going to be a big ask.<\/p>\n

The final scoreline,\u00a0Rangers 31 South Burnett 7, didn’t reflect the intensity of the game.<\/p>\n

Club President Shane O\u2019Malley said the South Burnett team showed a lot of promise.<\/p>\n

“That was the top team in the competition, and we really took it to them,” he said.<\/p>\n

Rangers accelerated away at the start with their No 15, Grant Angell, scoring three quick tries in succession.<\/p>\n

“We let them get away in the first 10 or 15 minutes,” Shane said.<\/p>\n

But the Thrashers withheld the pressure better as the game wore on.<\/p>\n

“Our defence was excellent,” Shane said. “It was a very physical game. Afterwards, the Rangers said it was hardest, most physical game they played so far this year.”<\/p>\n

Shane said a “lot of positives” had come out of the match.<\/p>\n

“We now just have to work on our finishing,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Thrashers will be back on the road next Saturday, travelling to Toowoomba for a match-up against the Bears.<\/p>\n

“They’re pretty good rivals of ours, it should be a pretty close contest,” Shane said.<\/p>\n
