Nanango Show Society is “very happy” with this year’s event, despite still having to run under the “green tick” vaccination mandate.<\/p>\n

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced that double-vax entry requirements on showgrounds would be lifted on April 14, which meant the Nanango Show missed out by less than a week.<\/p>\n

And despite lobbying … the mandate stayed in place.<\/p>\n

“We were all very happy considering the conditions we had to run under,” Show Society president Les Schloss told southburnett.com.au<\/strong><\/p>\n

“But I heard a lot of reports that people couldn’t come.”<\/p>\n

Les said the COVID restrictions had definitely affected show numbers but the\u00a0crowds were good on Friday night at the rodeo and “they were all there again” for the Heritage fireworks on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

“It was very good, considering the restrictions,” he said.<\/p>\n

Crowds may also have been affected by the overcast skies on Saturday – the main day of the two-day show – and the few light showers that swept the grounds.<\/p>\n

The show was officially opened on Saturday afternoon by Nanango Show Society Patron Gloria Fleming, who reminisced about the Show over the years and her time as Miss Showgirl 58 years ago.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I can never remember missing a Nanango Show,” she said. “I would have been pushed in a pram when I was about three months old to my first show.<\/p>\n

“The Nanango Show was the event of the year.”<\/p>\n

Her parents always had entries in the fat cattle, poultry and pavilion competitions.<\/p>\n

Gloria said she had enjoyed a wonderful time as Miss Showgirl.<\/p>\n

“I was even taken for a plane flight which flew over and circled the grounds!” she said.<\/p>\n
