Murgon resident Charlie Plant is the 2022 Youth Member for Nanango.<\/p>\n

Every year one young person aged 15-25 is selected from every electorate in Queensland to form the YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament and debate important issues.<\/p>\n

Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington congratulated Charlie recently on his selection and discussed issues with him relating to his assigned portfolio of Agricultural Industry, Resources and Rural Development.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was great to meet with Charlie and learn more about his aspirations for his time as the Nanango Youth Member,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCharlie is studying to be a secondary school teacher at USQ and currently works as a youth worker with South Burnett CTC.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe loves regional communities and small town culture and is passionate about securing long-term economic viability and social cohesion for these communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was impressed with his passion for regional areas.<\/p>\n

“We discussed the important role of the YMCA Youth Parliament process.\u00a0These types of opportunities are so important for our young people so we can encourage them to get involved and learn more about how they can initiate change to tackle issues and help improve our communities.”<\/p>\n

The Youth Parliament program kicked off on April 9 with a three-day forum in Brisbane.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Charlie will be involved in meetings with his portfolio group throughout the year to write a Youth Bill and engage in community consultations,” Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey will come back together in late September for a full sitting week at Parliament House in Brisbane to debate their Bills and deliver personal statements.<\/p>\n

\u201cYouth Parliament brings together 93 young people aged 15-25 each year to teach them about the government decision-making process, while providing an excellent leadership opportunity for young people like Charlie who may one day become our future decision makers.”<\/p>\n

The YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament is an accredited education program supported by the State Government, and students can receive credit towards their Queensland Certificate of Education upon completion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
