The South Burnett Thrashers have enjoyed an incredible start to their return to the rugby union paddock, downing Toowoomba Rangers 55-7 on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Round 1 game of the Darling Downs competition was held at Gold Park, the home of the Toowoomba Rangers.<\/p>\n

“We were given a very warm welcome back in the Downs comp, with the other teams making a tunnel for the Thrashers to run on to the field,” club president Jamie Shirlaw said.<\/p>\n

“This was our first competition game since our last season back in 2013.<\/p>\n

“It was great to see the team start with a strong performance, but they deserve it.<\/p>\n

“The squad has been training since the start of November last year and had trial matches against quality teams in higher divisions.”<\/p>\n

Coach Mike Bishop said the Thrashers’ defence had been outstanding.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“This opened up many scoring opportunities for the boys,” Jamie said.<\/p>\n

“We would like to thank our major sponsors Sunpork and Kingaroy Quarry Supplies for helping us get back up and running.”<\/p>\n

Thrashers tries were scored by\u00a0Lynray Tingiia, Apisalome Waqatabu, Malaki Malaki, Braedon McKee (2), Visesio Torris, Marcus Jensen and Sata Tale.<\/p>\n

Marcus Jensen kicked five conversions.<\/p>\n

The Thrashers’ next game will be played on April 30 against Gatton at Risdon Oval in Warwick.<\/p>\n
