Eighteen young people from across the South Burnett and Cherbourg have been selected\u00a0 to serve on a Regional Youth Council.<\/p>\n

The Youth Councillors, who come from all parts of the region,\u00a0have been appointed for a one-year term following an interview and selection process.<\/p>\n

Fifteen of the young people – including five via videolink – were officially inducted at a meeting in Kingaroy on Thursday led by Cr Danita Potter.<\/p>\n

The Regional Youth Council will meet monthly to advocate for the needs of young people who live, work and study in the local community.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cr Potter said organising a Youth Council had been a dream of hers for several years, and the induction was “a truly monumental” event.<\/p>\n

CEO Mark Pitt congratulated the inductees for putting up their hands to participate.<\/p>\n

“I am looking forward to working with you guys, getting your views and perspectives,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Pitt said young people have a different view on the world so it was wonderful to see them sitting around the Council table.<\/p>\n

The inductees were led through Council’s values – Honesty, Respect, Accountability, Integrity and Unity – as well as the Code of Conduct, responsibilities under the Local Government Act, ethics and the need to project a professional image.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first official South Burnett Regional Youth Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 12, in the Council Chambers at Kingaroy from 4:00pm-5.30pm.<\/p>\n

The Regional Youth Council is open to young people between the ages of 14 and 24.<\/p>\n
