Motorists are again being urged by Toowoomba Regional Council to avoid driving through dangerous floodwaters as parts of the region mop up yet again from weekend rainfall.<\/p>\n

Deputy Mayor Geoff McDonald said the risk was simply too great.<\/p>\n

\u201cI cannot stress this highly enough: if it\u2019s flooded, forget it,” Cr McDonald said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCouncil has had multiple reports of people driving through floodwaters from the overnight rainfall on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had two fatal tragedies last week involving people driving through floodwaters and unfortunately the message still isn\u2019t getting through.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease obey the signage. It\u2019s impossible for Council to sign every defect and danger on the roads so be alert and drive to the conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe last thing we want is any further tragedies, so please be extra careful if you need to travel and even reassess whether you need to be on the roads in the first place.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cOur top priority is to ensure all residents are safe and well-informed about the potential dangers from possible floodwaters. It is better to err on the side of caution.”<\/p>\n

“Council is also asking for patience from the public as it works through a large backlog of customer requests for assistance.<\/p>\n
