Friends and supporters of Kingaroy’s Big Peanut will be gathering at Lions Park in Kingaroy on Saturday morning to officially welcome the new sculpture with a Community Peanut Party.<\/p>\n

The 3.4 metre sculpture was built through a year-long fundraising drive by members of the Kingaroy Needs A Big Peanut committee who kicked off the campaign in October 2020 with a GoFundMe page.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council got on board the concept several weeks later when Councillors voted to locate the finished sculpture at Lions Park in Kingaroy Street.<\/p>\n

The steel creation began to be put together in late 2020 by metal sculptor Kane Minogue as fundraising efforts continued, using pieces of farming machinery donated by the community.<\/p>\n

The finished half-tonne sculpture was finally mounted on a plinth in the park last November, after being transported from Kane’s workshop in Grafton.<\/p>\n

Over the past four months the South Burnett Regional Council has been putting the finishing touches on the project.<\/p>\n

These included completing final upgrades to Lions Park and crafting several plaques for the sculpture’s plinth.<\/p>\n

The project will finally be declared finished on Saturday morning with a three-hour, free community street party from 9:00am to noon.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It will feature a free sausage sizzle provided by the Kingaroy Men’s Shed, along with face-painting, a jumping castle and fairy floss for children.<\/p>\n

Popular local band Mr Q will be providing live music during the morning, and the winners of a peanut colouring-in competition – who will receive free passes to the Kingaroy Cinema – will be announced.<\/p>\n

Sculptor Kane Minogue will also be attending to answer questions about how he put the sculpture together, and The Peanut Van will be offering 20 per cent discount on all their lines in honour of the day.<\/p>\n

The official unveiling will occur at 10:30am.<\/p>\n
