At one point, storm clouds clouds threatened to cut short the South Burnett Cricket Grand Final on Saturday but sadly for the Wooroolin Vikings, Thor wasn’t on their side …<\/p>\n

The rain held off long enough for Murgon to demolish the Vikings, downing them by six wickets on the Stables Field at Murgon Sportsground.<\/p>\n

Murgon and Wooroolin had been the standout teams during the 2021-22 season – both only suffering one loss – but Murgon went into the grand final as red hot favourites after blowing the Vikings away just two weeks earlier in the Major Semi-Final.<\/p>\n

Wooroolin won the toss and elected to bat.<\/p>\n

Openers Paul Clegg and Andrew Winks started slowly, with the Murgon bowlers keeping them on the defensive, limiting scoring opportunities.<\/p>\n

When Clegg was trapped LBW by Adrian Webster, Bradley Moore came to the crease and started to get the scoreboard ticking over, hitting 23 runs off the 41 balls he faced.<\/p>\n

Winks was then out for just 10, to be replaced by Tavis Hartwig who batted on stolidly to become Wooroolin’s top scorer with 33.<\/p>\n

As Hartwig batted on bravely, partners fell cheaply at the other end.<\/p>\n

Wooroolin were eventually all out for 124 in the 37th over.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nathan Roderick (4\/20 off eight overs) and Renee Irvine (3\/24 off 5.6) took the bulk of the wickets for Murgon.<\/p>\n

Murgon overhauled the target in the 31st over for the loss of just four wickets, although the Vikings’ bowlers also managed to put a brake on the scoring.<\/p>\n

Nathan Roderick (32) and Riley Sippel (19 not out) were Murgon’s top scorers.<\/p>\n

Keegan Wright (2\/25 off eight overs),\u00a0Dane Bloomfield (1\/9 off three) and Tavis Hartwig (1\/12 off four) took the Murgon wickets.<\/p>\n

A small ceremony was held after the game to present the Murgon team with their trophy, and for the Umpires’ season awards to be announced.<\/p>\n
