NBNCo, the company rolling out Australia’s new high-speed broadband network, is pushing ahead with connecting up the South Burnett with fixed wireless broadband.<\/p>\n

Applications have been submitted to the South Burnett Regional Council for new towers to be erected at\u00a0Blackbutt, Kumbia, Memerambi, Murgon, Nanango, Nanango South, Tingoora and Wondai.<\/p>\n

There are also indicative proposals to co-locate transmitters on existing towers at Kingaroy, Nanango East and Proston.<\/p>\n

Other proposed sites include Booie East, Ellesmere, Maidenwell, Taabinga, Wattle Camp and Wondai.<\/p>\n

Cr Cheryl Dalton told southburnett.com.au<\/strong>\u00a0all applications that have been received are currently going through the assessment process.<\/p>\n

Councillors have asked that these applications come to council for decision as they are of whole-of-community interest.<\/p>\n

Fixed wireless broadband is similar to a fixed-line broadband service except the data is delivered through the air instead of via an optic fibre cable.<\/p>\n

NBN Co says fixed wireless networks \u2014 unlike mobile phone networks \u2014 are engineered to meet the speed and service requirements for a specific number of users in the coverage area. This means the bandwidth available for each fixed wireless customer is more consistent and stable than for mobile network customers, even during peak times.<\/p>\n
