Kingaroy’s annual Bookarama proved to be a winner for St John’s Lutheran School P&F this year.<\/p>\n

Organisers said they were really pleased with the roll-up of keen book buyers who came out on the weekend to support the event and snap up armfuls of bargains in the process.<\/p>\n

The two-day book sale – held at Kingaroy Town Hall – offered visitors a choice of more than 12,000 titles covering everything from popular fiction through to cookery, gardening, travel, history and everything in between.<\/strong><\/p>\n

P&F parents and student volunteers put in six hours work on Friday shifting books into the town hall, then patiently stacked them on to long tables so buyers could easily browse through the titles on offer.<\/p>\n

As usual, prices for most items ranged between 50c and $3 but there were also two Happy Hours on Saturday and Sunday which gave buyers the chance to secure books at half price.<\/p>\n

And this year there was even a free book table which let visitors grab a volume or two at no charge whatsoever!<\/p>\n

The sale ran from 8:00am to 4:00pm Saturday, and 8:00am to noon on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Bookarama was started by the former Taabinga Rotary Club in 2009, and over the next 11 years it helped raise more than $100,000 for worthy causes and charities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

St John’s P&F took it over in 2020 when Taabinga Rotary wound up due to an ageing membership but were unable to hold the event that year due to the COVID pandemic.<\/p>\n

However, Bookarama returned last year when pandemic restrictions eased, and organisers said this year’s event went even better.<\/p>\n

Bookarama’s next outing will be in March 2023, but book donations can be made from October onwards at the P&F’s regular “sorting days”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

These are held at the group’s storage shed at the rear of the South Burnett Enterprise Centre in Cornish Street.<\/p>\n
