Toowoomba Regional Council residents have been invited to have their say on the proposed pipeline from Toowoomba to Warwick<\/p>\n

The State Government project aims to improve Warwick\u2019s drought resilience on the Southern Downs by pumping water from Wivenhoe Dam through the TRC’s existing water infrastructure to connect with the new pipeline.<\/p>\n

Water will also be provided to the TRC towns of\u00a0Cambooya, Greenmount, Nobby and Clifton along the way.<\/p>\n

Water Minister Glenn Butcher said community consultation was important, in addition to the technical assessments which had already begun.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to hear the views of the community so that, in consultation with councils, we can make the right decisions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Butcher said recent rainfall should not diminish the importance of the work.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is tempting to look at current dam levels and think we don\u2019t need to act now. But we only need to think back to 2020 when Leslie Dam dwindled to just 4.6 per cent capacity and the projection that Warwick would run out of water by late 2020,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Butcher said the State Government had listened to the calls from TRC to include their regional communities along the pipeline route.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand Toowoomba residents want assurances that this project won\u2019t impact on their water security; this is why the project includes thoroughly investigating the existing network\u2019s capacity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Planning for the proposed pipeline began in 2019.<\/p>\n

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the State Government was investing more than $8 million to start work on the project.<\/p>\n
