Police confirmed on Wednesday the search for a teenager who was swept away by floodwaters at Booubyjan on January 8 is ongoing, although scaled back.<\/p>\n

Senior Sergeant Paul Algie said the search for Krystal Cain, 14, has been traumatic not only for her family but for the local community as well.<\/p>\n

“We understand this and are committed to supporting Krystal\u2019s family and our community during this difficult time,” Snr Sgt Algie said.<\/p>\n

“We continue to work with local community groups to provide welfare support to those who have been affected by Krystal\u2019s disappearance and our ongoing searches, as well for those who have lost stock, crops and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

“Although the search for Krystal is ongoing, it has been scaled back.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Throughout the search, we have utilised all available technologies and strategies to help bring closure to Krystal\u2019s family and the broader community.<\/p>\n

“We continue to respond to reports from local landholders and conduct follow-up investigations and physical or aerial searches as required.<\/p>\n

“Officers have also been in regular contact with those in the area, keeping them updated with police movements and search strategies.<\/p>\n

“We will continue to work closely with the community as the recovery of this significant weather event continues.”<\/p>\n

Krystal and her father\u00a0Lenny were travelling from Victoria to visit her grandparents in Agnes Water when their Toyota Camry was caught in flash flooding on the Burnett Highway in the early hours of January 8.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The pair managed to escape their vehicle as it was swept away and make it safely to a tree.<\/p>\n

However, Krystal was again washed away and has not been seen since.<\/p>\n

Her injured father was rescued the next morning, still clinging to a tree, and taken to Bundaberg Hospital via rescue helicopter.<\/p>\n
