Flooding at Wondai’s Sportsgrounds caused by December’s storms and Tropical Cyclone Seth in January has left the South Burnett Regional Council with a $31,500 headache.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Councillors were told the storms had levelled about 100 metres of the sportsground’s boundary fencing and heavily damaged its main access road.<\/p>\n

Flood water had also entered the umpire’s change room and two storage rooms under the grandstand, damaged timber ceiling battens and dislodged the asbestos sheeting used to line them.<\/p>\n

This had made all three rooms too unsafe to use.<\/p>\n

Council officers said they inspected the damage in December after an approach for assistance from the Wondai Proston Wolves.<\/strong><\/p>\n

They estimated it would cost Council $11,000 to repair the internal access road.<\/p>\n

They also estimated the cost to repair the three rooms under the grandstand – which would include removing any remaining asbestos sheeting and relining the roofs with water-resistant material – would be a further $20,500.<\/p>\n

They reported that an insurance claim has been lodged for the boundary fence repairs but Council would need to wait for an assessment outcome before costings for a better fence could be prepared and work could start.<\/p>\n

Councillors accepted the report unanimously.<\/p>\n
