A contractor has been appointed to build the trailheads for the Russell Park Mountain Bike project on the Bunya Mountains.<\/p>\n

Boyds Bay Landscaping Pty Ltd has been appointed by Western Downs Regional Council to upgrade existing day use areas and provide entry points to the new trails.<\/p>\n

Cr Kylie Bourne said the awarding of the trailhead construction contracts was an exciting milestone.<\/p>\n

“Council is excited to be delivering a brand-new adventure experience at the beautiful Bunya Mountains, which is going to provide a new opportunity to head outdoors and have some fun, while driving tourism in our region,” Cr Bourne said.<\/p>\n

“Works on the trails have been progressing well, with a brief construction pause during the period of wet weather in December.<\/p>\n

“Works recommenced after the New Year and it’s great to see the next package of works about to commence with the appointment of Boyds Bay Landscaping to deliver the public-facing entry points to the trails.<\/p>\n

“Boyds Bay delivered several of our landscaping projects under our COVID-19 package and we are excited to see the same high standard of work delivered as part of our Russell Park Mountain Bike trails.”<\/p>\n

This project will include four trailheads: Rifle Bird Park (Bunya Avenue), Fishers Lookout, Russell Park and Munro’s Camp.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The trailheads will include trail signs and bike and hiker hygiene stations.<\/p>\n

The Russell Park trailhead will also feature a range of new features including new picnic settings, seating, parking, landscaping, walking track connections, and eco-friendly amenities.<\/p>\n

Cr Bourne said the trailheads would be the perfect place to stop, rest and meet with friends while supporting riders visiting the trails.<\/p>\n

“The Bunya Mountains is a fantastic natural drawcard with significant cultural heritage, and it’s been fantastic working with the community and local indigenous groups on the designs,” she said.<\/p>\n

“Once complete, the project will feature 28km of mountain biking trails, including five dedicated one-way loops and two dual-direction link trails, offering something more for visitors and encouraging more people to visit the region.”<\/p>\n

Work on the trailheads is due to start this month.<\/p>\n
