Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington has described Tuesday’s announcement that Paradise Dam’s wall will be restored to its original height as “a political stunt”.<\/p>\n

Mrs Frecklington, who is\u00a0the Shadow Minister for Water and the Construction of Dams, said the State Government was just “cleaning up its own mess”.<\/p>\n

“The Queensland Government broke Paradise Dam and is now repairing the mess created by its own mistake,” she said.<\/p>\n

“They made a mess and now they want recognition for cleaning it up.<\/p>\n

“For the Premier to describe what is essentially a patch-up job as her largest investment in water infrastructure is a full admission of the failures of her government when it comes to water security.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“By her own admission, the Premier\u2019s largest investment in water infrastructure will not capture one extra drop of water for Queenslanders.\u00a0That is embarrassing.<\/p>\n

“The LNP has maintained Paradise Dam should be restored to its full height.<\/p>\n

“This State Government\u2019s decision to lower the dam wall was in direct contradiction to expert engineering advice.<\/p>\n

“Let\u2019s be very clear about today\u2019s political stunt.<\/p>\n

“The Premier tore down the dam wall in 2020. Today Queenslanders are now being asked to pay for this government\u2019s past mistake.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The Queensland Government\u2019s failure to listen is now costing Queenslanders dearly.<\/p>\n

“The Premier has consistently failed to address water security in Queensland.<\/p>\n

“The Premier is trying to distract and deflect from the integrity crisis burning through her government.<\/p>\n

“Queenslanders will see through this politically fuelled mess, and they won\u2019t cop it.”<\/p>\n

LNP Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said producers were “back to the old uncertainty and political posturing”.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I again call on this government to give us some answers and restore water security to Paradise Dam,” he said.<\/p>\n

“The people of Bundaberg and the Wide Bay region have been crying out for certainty around Paradise Dam for years after they were hung out to dry by a shock decision to lower the dam walls.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s simple. If our essential food bowl doesn\u2019t have access to a reliable supply of water, then we can\u2019t feed our nation.<\/p>\n

“The people of Wide Bay deserve better from this government.”<\/p>\n
