{"id":312499,"date":"2022-01-28T12:26:04","date_gmt":"2022-01-28T02:26:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=312499"},"modified":"2022-01-28T21:13:32","modified_gmt":"2022-01-28T11:13:32","slug":"qld-passes-covid-milestones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2022\/01\/28\/qld-passes-covid-milestones\/","title":{"rendered":"Qld Passes COVID Milestones"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_309815\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-309815\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/johngerrard.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-309815\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/johngerrard.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-309815\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chief Health Officer Dr John Gerrard (Photo: Qld Health)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>January 28, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Queensland passed two COVID-19 milestones on Friday:\u00a0it&#8217;s exactly two years since the first case of the &#8220;novel coronavirus&#8221; was detected in the State; the second is more tragic &#8211; the most deaths recorded in a 24-hour period.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at Friday morning&#8217;s media conference, Chief Health Officer Dr John Gerrard said 18 people had died in Queensland during the latest reporting period, including a 30-year-old who was not vaccinated.<\/p>\n<p>Six of the people who died were unvaccinated, nine had received two doses and three had received a booster shot.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve of the latest deaths were aged care residents and two are believed to have occurred in the Darling Downs Health Service region.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Queensland&#8217;s death toll since the pandemic began is now 171, with 164 of these deaths occurring since the borders opened on December 13.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ten COVID deaths have been recorded in the Darling Downs Health region since the pandemic began, including seven during the latest Omicron wave.<\/p>\n<p>There are 818 people currently being treated for COVID in Queensland hospitals, including 54 patients in intensive care.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 9974 new cases were reported on Friday morning, taking the estimated number of\u00a0active cases in Queensland at present to 66,068, although health officials believe this figure could be vastly underestimated.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>There was some good news from Cherbourg on Thursday afternoon with no new cases being reported by Council.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are currently 28 active cases in the community with 206 people now recovered.\u00a0This takes Cherbourg\u2019s total since the Omicron wave began to 234.<\/p>\n<p>Three residents are currently being treated in Toowoomba Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Since the pandemic began, a total of 11,714 cases of COVID-19 have occurred across Queensland in people who identity as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person.
