January 26, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pandemic fears or volunteer shortages scuttled most of the South Burnett’s planned community Australia Day events but two that pressed ahead were at Hivesville and Wondai.<\/p>\n

At Hivesville, the day kicked off at 7:00am with a flag-raising in Memorial Park.<\/p>\n

It was followed by the official presentation of the Proston \/ Hivesville Local Achiever Award to Proston resident John Walden and a barbecue breakfast, organised by the Hivesville Progress Association.<\/p>\n

In Wondai, the Regional Art Gallery hosted a free bacon and egg breakfast – and lamingtons – in The Studio from 7:00am.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A small flag-raising ceremony also took place and the Wondai Town & District Band provided the live entertainment for about 60 local residents.<\/p>\n

Sadly, many other towns’ plans were derailed.<\/p>\n

Proston Scouts had planned to go ahead with a trimmed down Australia Day event but this was cancelled at the last minute on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

Other not-for-profit community events to be cancelled were at Boondooma Homestead, Kingaroy, Murgon and, more controversially, at Nanango.<\/p>\n

Most of the advertised commercial events at local hotels went ahead as planned.<\/p>\n
