Somerset Regional Council has been one of the winners under the Queensland Local Government Grants Commission (QLGGC) review.<\/p>\n

It was revealed on Wednesday that South Burnett Regional Council will incur a 7 per cent cut in funding every year for the next three years; and Toowoomba Regional Council is facing\u00a0a 23 per cent cut for the 2022-23 financial year.<\/p>\n

However, Somerset Regional Council’s\u00a0indicative allocation will increase over the next three years by about 3 per cent per year (FY2023-FY2025).<\/p>\n

The chair of the\u00a0QLGGC wrote to Mayor Graeme Lehmann on December 6 to advise him of the change.<\/p>\n

Thursday’s Ordinary meeting of Council was told the Financial Assistance Grant was the SRC’s largest annual grant at $3,757,613.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is Commonwealth funding that is distributed according to a formula that is determined by the QLGGC.<\/p>\n

The meeting was told that it was understood that Somerset\u2019s increase would be in addition to any overall change in the annual funding pool (such as CPI increases).<\/p>\n

About 35 per cent of Queensland local councils have had their grants cut under the review.<\/p>\n
