{"id":311405,"date":"2021-12-15T18:29:55","date_gmt":"2021-12-15T08:29:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=311405"},"modified":"2021-12-15T18:29:55","modified_gmt":"2021-12-15T08:29:55","slug":"new-collar-for-dangerous-dogs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2021\/12\/15\/new-collar-for-dangerous-dogs\/","title":{"rendered":"New Collar For Dangerous Dogs"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_311406\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-311406\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211215dogcollar.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-311406\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211215dogcollar.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211215dogcollar.jpg 740w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211215dogcollar-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211215dogcollar-269x167.jpg 269w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211215dogcollar-285x177.jpg 285w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211215dogcollar-340x211.jpg 340w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/20211215dogcollar-263x163.jpg 263w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-311406\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dangerous dogs across Queensland must wear a new collar from January 1 (Photo: Biosecurity Qld)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>December 15, 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Regulated dogs across Queensland must wear a specific type of distinctive red and yellow striped collar from January 1.<\/p>\n<p>Agricultural Minister Mark Furner said regulated dogs currently had to wear a distinctive collar, but the appearance was not specified and there were inconsistencies across different local government areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom January 1, 2022, all regulated dogs in Queensland must wear a collar that has red and yellow angled reflective stripes,\u201d Mr Furner said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want the same collar worn everywhere, so we all know what to look out for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Regulated dogs include restricted breeds, declared dangerous dogs and declared menacing dogs.<\/p>\n<p>Restricted breeds are dog breeds that are not permitted to be imported into Australia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Declared dangerous and menacing dogs are dogs that have been declared by the relevant local council.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr Furner said making the distinctive collar mandatory would help promote responsible management of regulated dogs and allow local government officers and community members to quickly identify a regulated dog.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you are aware of a regulated dog not wearing a distinctive collar, call your local council and don\u2019t approach the dog,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The changes followed consultation with local councils.<\/p>\n<p>Biosecurity Queensland conducted a statewide survey of local governments on the proposed draft specifications, in partnership with the Local Government Association of Queensland and the South-East Queensland Regional Animal Management Group.<\/p>\n<p>All parties supported the proposal to prescribe requirements in the regulation.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Dogs of any breed can be declared dangerous or menacing by an authorised local government officer if it:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Has attacked, or acted in a way that caused fear to, a person or another animal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Or may, in the opinion of an authorised person, seriously attack or act in a way that causes fear to a person or animal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Regulated dogs must be microchipped, wear an identification tag, be kept in an enclosure with a sign displayed, and be kept under effective control (ie. on a leash being held by a physically capable adult). Declared dangerous dogs and restricted dogs must also be desexed and muzzled in public.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There are five restricted breeds in Queensland:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dogo Argentino<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Fila Brasileiro<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Japanese Tosa<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>American pit bull terrier or pit bull terrier<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Perro de Presa Canario or Presa Canario<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Regulated dogs across Queensland must wear a specific type of distinctive red and yellow striped collar from January 1.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":311406,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[22,3,36],"tags":[1131,1134],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
