November 26, 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cherbourg hasn’t had a lot of success this year scheduling its NAIDOC celebration with events cancelled for multiple reasons … so when the rain came on Thursday, things again looked grim.<\/p>\n

But the Barambah Local Justice Group and the Muran Djan Centre weren’t going to be put off.<\/p>\n

They simply moved the activities that had been planned for Cherbourg’s Memorial Park to the Sports Centre.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Jeffrey “Mitta” Dynevor Gymnasium was filled with stalls from a number of groups sharing information and giveaways.<\/p>\n

Special guests were from the Queensland Reds – including captain Liam Wright – who encouraged the children to pass and kick a football into a special blow-up net.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Out in the oval, other children were having a great time tossing returning boomerangs. Gundoo Early Childhood Centre and the HIPPY Program also had kids’ activities.<\/p>\n

Volunteers from the Muran Djan Men’s Centre put on a barbecue, and there were also fruit cups and snow cones for the kids.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg Radio broadcast live from the event, interviewing local residents as they passed by.<\/p>\n

In the main hall, Rocko Langton provided live music.<\/p>\n

The theme for 2021 NAIDOC was “Heal Country”.<\/p>\n
