Some of Queensland’s top rugby union players – past and present – have been visiting schools around the region this week to raise interest in the sport.<\/p>\n

Visits by players from the\u00a0\u201cReds To Region\u201d tour were planned for Kingaroy, Murgon and Nanango State high schools.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the players also dropped into Cherbourg’s NAIDOC celebrations where they encouraged local children to kick balls into a giant indoor net at the Sports Centre.<\/p>\n

Later in the day, they\u00a0joined the South Burnett Thrashers as the rain tumbled down during a training session at Wondai Sportsground.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Thrashers, who are working to return to competition in 2022, went through some skills training under the watchful eyes of Queensland Reds captain Liam Wright, half-back Kalani Thomas, women’s rep player\u00a0Alecia Pienaar and two “Vintage Reds”, former Wallabies Bill Ross and Garrick Morgan.<\/p>\n

Liam later swapped jerseys with the team.<\/p>\n

He was presented with a classic Thrashers’ jersey from the\u00a0A grade premiership winning team of 1997.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
