Further study could land you in teaching or research.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re excited to give these students a glimpse of what that might look like and maybe ignite some big ideas in them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Delivered in collaboration with the Equity Pathways Unit, ACU\u2019s RARE Initiative is visiting schools in Murgon, Nanango, Cherbourg and Wondai from November 22-25.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Clinical exercise physiologists from ACU are leading participating students through an assortment of workshops, including motor learning and fitness testing.<\/p>\n<p>A big drawcard is the virtual reality technology that enables students to explore human anatomy by peering underneath and between layers of skin, muscle and bone.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For many remote Year 12s, uni can look like a pretty lonely and unforgiving environment, but that doesn\u2019t have to be the case,&#8221; ACU equity pathways officer Jake Hardiman said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;By taking a taste of uni to them, we hope to bust some myths around higher education, fuel their aspirations and ultimately ease their transition into future studies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kingaroy State High School\u2019s Rowan Gordon is dreaming about a future in basketball but has now been given a glimpse of other options.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rowan is a member of Kingaroy\u2019s Clontarf Academy which aims to improve the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.<\/p>\n<p>Choosing a path beyond secondary school is still a distant prospect for him but after the ACU visit on Tuesday he knows there are other options.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy sister just finished senior and she might be going to uni,\u201d he said. \u201cToday was a lot of fun, and we get a lot of support from school so I wouldn\u2019t mind doing something in sport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>RARE also shone a light on ACU\u2019s Uni Step-Up which provides opportunities for students to complete two first-year units and develop key relationships with university staff and peers while still at secondary school.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_310002\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-310002\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-310002\" src=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/20211123rare1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/20211123rare1.jpg 740w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/20211123rare1-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/20211123rare1-269x167.jpg 269w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/20211123rare1-285x177.jpg 285w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/20211123rare1-340x211.jpg 340w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/20211123rare1-263x163.jpg 263w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-310002\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ACU Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science student &#8211; and former Kingaroy resident &#8211; Catherine Marsh has returned to the South Burnett this week to coach students as part of the RARE visit (Photo: ACU)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>[UPDATED]<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Peering through a virtual reality headset is one way South Burnett teenagers can open their minds to the possibility of scientific careers timed to bloom at the 2032 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":310016,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[3,395,6],"tags":[35],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
