The speed limit on Chinchilla-Wondai Road approaching G.S. Bond Bridge, east of Durong, will be lowered this week.<\/p>\n

Transport and Main Roads Southern Queensland regional director Bill Lansbury said the speed limit reduction and installation of extra signs would provide safer driving conditions while the department continued to investigate bridge replacement options.<\/p>\n

\u201cA speed limit review has been undertaken and the recommendation to reduce the speed limit from 100km\/h to 80km\/h on both approaches to G.S. Bond Bridge has been endorsed by the speed management committee,\u201d Mr Lansbury said.<\/p>\n

The committee includes representatives from the Queensland Police Service, South Burnett Regional Council and the Department of Transport and Main Roads.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The review process considers a range of factors such as road function, environment, construction standards, prevailing traffic speeds and crash history.<\/p>\n

Mr Lansbury said additional safety improvements to the bridge included installing edgelines with raised pavement markers, guideposts and a high-visibility, “Give Way Ahead” sign.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew speed limit signs will be installed by the end of this month, conditions permitting, and will be enforceable from this time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI urge all motorists to observe the new signs and always drive to the conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n
