Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk praised Cherbourg Council and the positivity she had seen in the community, when she visited the town on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The Premier was accompanied by Education Minister Grace Grace on the visit, which included a briefing from Cherbourg councillors, a visit to Nurunderi TAFE College and Council’s recycling facility and a walk alongside the Mater health team as they delivered door-to-door COVID-19 vaccinations.<\/p>\n

The Premier and Education Minister later visited Murgon State High School to meet student leaders and inspect the school’s new $6.6 million auditorium.<\/p>\n

Nurunderi TAFE hosted the Premier’s morning live update to Queenslanders, during which she announced there had been two more cases of community COVID-19 transmission in Queensland: in Warwick and on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n

“This virus is coming. I need to keep you safe and Queenslanders need to continue to unite to ensure that we can get through this as smoothly as possible,” the Premier said.<\/p>\n

The Premier, Minister Grace, Deputy Chief Health Officer Dr Lynne McKinlay and Cherbourg Mayor Elvie Sandow then fielded questions from reporters.<\/p>\n

Premier Palaszczuk was quizzed on Cherbourg’s latest vaccination numbers which appeared to be much better than the figures reported by the Federal Government.<\/strong><\/p>\n

She said the 72.7 per cent first dose and 55.3 per cent double dose figures related to the postcode 4605 and were based on data sent to Queensland Health.<\/p>\n

But the Premier emphasised health workers were going door-to-door in Cherbourg and people were getting vaccinated.<\/p>\n

Speaking later, Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said it was good news vaccination rates were rising in Cherbourg.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“However, I am concerned that the 70 per cent first dose figures quoted by the Premier today are actually for the whole 4605 postcode, which includes a much broader area,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn fact, as at November 8, Cherbourg was at 39.5 per cent, which is a good improvement, but is still not high enough.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t want to see complacency setting in with the community thinking the results are better than they actually may be. It is imperative that the community of Cherbourg does everything to protect themselves from COVID-19.”<\/p>\n
