GH Clothing Co quietly opened its doors in Murgon on Monday, filling the gap left when the town’s Target Country store closed this year.<\/p>\n

The shop is owned and operated by Graham House Community Centre, a not-for-profit charity, and\u00a0is being run as a social enterprise which means profits go back into the community.<\/p>\n

Store manager Kristy Watson told southburnett.com.au<\/strong>\u00a0all the clothing being sold was brand new, sourced through a buying group.<\/p>\n

The shop specialises in the items which disappeared from local sale when the Target Country closed, ie. family clothing, children’s wear, underwear and footwear.<\/p>\n

Kristy said the double shop, located in the former Furniture Zone building in Lamb Street, was attracting a very positive response from customers.<\/p>\n

“It’s been very, very well-received,” she said.<\/p>\n

“We’ve had lots of compliments on our range.”<\/p>\n

GH Clothing Co have deliberately tried to steer away from stocking items already available in other Murgon shops, as the aim is not to be in competition with them.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We are trying to be supportive of other businesses,” Kristy said.<\/p>\n

Graham House realised that when Target Country closed, the impact could be felt by other Murgon shops as people would be more likely to do their other shopping in Kingaroy or Gympie if they had to travel there for clothing.<\/p>\n

GH Clothing Co is open from 8:30am-5:00pm, Monday to Friday and 9:00am to noon on Saturdays.<\/p>\n

It has two full-time permanent staff, three casuals plus volunteers.<\/p>\n

EFTPOS facilities are available.<\/p>\n

An official “grand opening” will be held at the store on Saturday, November 20.<\/p>\n
