The 10th annual national Garage Sale Trail is on again … and this year it’s running over two weekends – and online as well – to promote product re-use, the circular economy and taking community action to tackle climate change<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

November 3, 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n

South Burnett households, schools and community groups are being invited to join more than 400,000 people across the country over two weekends on November 13-14 and November 20-21 as part of the tenth annual Garage Sale Trail.<\/p>\n

The Garage Sale Trail is a not-for-profit social enterprise founded by Sydney mates, Darryl Nichols and Andrew Valder that seeks to educate Australians on the importance of reuse, and the need to take individual responsibility for the impacts of our consumption habits while also building stronger, more connected and more resilient communities.<\/p>\n

It began in 2010 in Bondi and has since turned into a nation-wide event supported by more than 115 Councils.<\/p>\n

It is expected this year\u2019s Garage Sale Trail will involve more than 15,000 garage sales across Australia.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Mayor Brett Otto said the council-powered event was a fun and social way to promote reuse, reduce the amount of waste going into landfill, meet the neighbours and make or save a few bucks.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The two garage sales registered locally will see around 506 kilograms of good stuff saved from landfill. That\u2019s already a huge win in my book,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Shoppers can snag a guilt-free bargain knowing that they\u2019re contributing to a more circular economy. That\u2019s one where stuff is kept in use for as long as possible, delivering the highest value it can, for as long as it can.”<\/p>\n

This year – for the first time – Garage Sale Trail has partnered with PayPal to enable cashless payments at the event. <\/strong><\/p>\n

This means sellers with PayPal accounts can provide QR codes for touch-free payments for their shoppers if selling in-person or use PayPal.Me payments on the world wide web for online sellers.<\/p>\n

In-person garage sales currently have the green light in Queensland with some restrictions which you can find on the Garage Sale Trail<\/b><\/a> website.<\/p>\n

Sellers will have safety measures in place and will be adhering to all Queensland Health guidelines.<\/p>\n

Residents can also head online to host or shop at virtual garage sales around the country, all from the comfort of their own home.<\/strong><\/p>\n
