Hopes of getting the South Burnett Thrashers back on to rugby fields next season moved a step closer on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

A group of would-be players turned up at Wondai Sportsground for some basic skills training and to “shake out the cobwebs”.<\/p>\n

Jamie Shirlaw, who has been gauging interest in reviving the team, said it was still very early days but he has been having talks with the Sunshine Coast Rugby Union, which would mean less travelling for the players.<\/p>\n

“We’re negotiating what it would look like at the moment,” he said.<\/p>\n

The last time the Thrashers were in action was in the Darling Downs competition in 2014, which meant some long trips away.<\/p>\n

Several women have also put up their hands, showing interest in forming a female team – a concept the Thrashers are also eager to explore.<\/p>\n

Interested players have been invited to come along to the Wondai Sportsground on November 25 to meet staff members and players from the Queensland Reds.<\/p>\n

The three Reds players currently locked in for the visit are Liam Wright, Kalani Thomas and Lawson Creighton plus two former Reds, Garrick Morgan and Sean Hardman.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This visit is part of the third annual \u201cReds To Region\u201d tour by the Queensland pre-season squad.<\/p>\n
