The latest NAPLAN results have left Saint Mary’s Catholic College principal Carmel O’Brien feeling very proud of all her students, but particularly the Year 9 cohort.<\/p>\n

The 38 students in the Year 9 class have done particularly well, with a stunning result in reading and excellent results in numeracy and writing.<\/p>\n

“I am immensely proud of the students’ work ethic and commitment to learning,” Mrs O’Brien said.<\/p>\n

“I even had other principals ringing me and congratulating the school on the outstanding results for our Year 9 group.”<\/p>\n

She said Year 9 were above the best performing States in all three strands of the NAPLAN testing, and significantly above the Australian mean scale score.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“It was really a standout performance,” she said.<\/p>\n

“And it’s not an accident. It’s because of purposeful engaged learning.<\/p>\n

“It’s the learning opportunities that staff provide in the classroom that end up in such outstanding results.”<\/p>\n

NAPLAN tests assess students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.<\/p>\n

As there was no testing done in 2020 due to the pandemic, the 2021 results compare the same students’ performances in 2019 and demonstrate the boost in performance.<\/p>\n
