{"id":308015,"date":"2021-10-26T14:00:54","date_gmt":"2021-10-26T04:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=308015"},"modified":"2022-05-18T19:03:23","modified_gmt":"2022-05-18T09:03:23","slug":"focus-on-illegal-dumping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2021\/10\/26\/focus-on-illegal-dumping\/","title":{"rendered":"Focus On Illegal Dumping"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/i91YlrgurOY?rel=0\" width=\"760\" height=\"440\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>October 26, 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Illegal dumping of commercial and other waste at Kilkivan, Wyalla and Blackbutt has prompted action by authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The waste includes construction debris and combustible material.<\/p>\n<p>At Taromeo Creek,\u00a0 the dumped waste includes glass and asbestos.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Residents can report any concerns about illegal dumping to the Department of Environment and Science&#8217;s 24-hour Pollution Hotline on 1300-130-372 (Option 2).<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>A Kilkivan landholder has been fined more than $2700 for illegally dumping demolition waste in an eroded gully on their land (see video, above).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Compliance officers inspected the area, collected drone footage and determined the waste had not been generated on the property.<\/p>\n<p>The landholder said the material was construction and demolition waste which had been disposed of in the gully to prevent further erosion from occurring.<\/p>\n<p>The lanholder removed the waste after an investigation by the DES.<\/p>\n<p>A DES spokesperson said the landholder had complied with the direction notice, removing all waste from the gully and disposing of it lawfully.<\/p>\n<p>The landholder also used appropriate material, including crushed rock in place of the removed waste, to mitigate ongoing erosion in the gully.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>A Wyalla landholder has been ordered to remove a large amount of commercial waste located on a\u00a0property they just purchased (see video, below).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The DES issued the Direction Notice to the landholder to remove the waste after inspecting the property following a tip-off.<\/p>\n<p>Compliance officers estimated between 5000-8000 tonnes of waste had been dumped on the land.<\/p>\n<p>The Direction Notice requires the landholder to dispose of the waste at a facility that can lawfully receive it.<\/p>\n<p>A fine was not issued as the landholder had only recently bought the land and did not commit the offence.<\/p>\n<p>Investigations into the transportation and unlawful disposal of waste are continuing.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xQqAG1DElX4?rel=0\" width=\"760\" height=\"440\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>South Burnett Regional Council published a tender this week seeking the services of a suitably qualified asbestos licenced earthmoving contractor to undertake capping of an illegal dumping site at Taromeo Creek.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The site, in\u00a0Hart Street, Blackbutt,\u00a0contains asbestos, metal, glass and other rubbish.<\/p>\n<p>The tender documents state that the works required include the removal of exposed asbestos from the site surface, the removal and mulching of vegetation under 30cm diameter within the capping site; and capping the exposed site to landfill standard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Illegal dumping of commercial and other waste at Kilkivan, Wyalla and Blackbutt has prompted action by authorities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":308017,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[5,3,36],"tags":[1134],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
