Queensland Auditor-General Brendan Worrall has been visiting local councils to meet local mayors, councillors and Council staff<\/p>\n

He visited the South Burnett Regional Council on Tuesday and dropped into Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

“I came into the role four years ago. Right from the start I saw it was important to go out and meet the entities that I audit,” Mr Worrall told Cherbourg Radio.<\/p>\n

“And meet the decision-makers … the mayors, the councillors and the chief executives, to understand their operating context.”<\/p>\n

Mr Worrall’s office is responsible for financial audits of all government entities, both State and local.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He said Cherbourg Council was the 23rd local government out of the 77 councils across Queensland to get its financial reports certified this year by the Queensland Audit Office.<\/p>\n

“That’s a great achievement and obviously well within the statutory timeframes,” Mr Worrall said.<\/p>\n

“It’s obviously a reflection upon the appetite for good governance of which financial reporting is a part.”<\/p>\n
