Members of the QCWA Gympie & South Burnett Division met in Murgon last week.<\/p>\n

The photography, dressmaking and public speaking division finals were held to decide who will compete at the region finals to be held in Kingaroy in June.<\/p>\n

The photography proved very popular, resulting in keen competition between some excellent entries. A full list of results is at the end of this report.<\/p>\n

Leanne Sissons will represent the Division in both public speaking and interpretive reading.<\/p>\n

Deidre Lee\u2019s outfit for a child from 19 months to 6 years, and outfit for a child from 7 \u2013 12 years, and Judy Radke\u2019s daywear outfit will all go on to region judging.<\/p>\n

* * *\u00a0<\/strong><\/center>Big news is that there is a new branch in the division. It will meet on Saturday afternoons, enabling women with commitments during the week to join in.<\/p>\n

It will be known as the Kingaroy Twilight Branch<\/strong>. Anyone wanting to know more can phone Lois Thurecht on (07) 4162-3824.<\/p>\n

* * *\u00a0<\/strong><\/center>The crafty ladies of the division will gather in Murgon<\/strong> on April 27-28 for two days of fun and learning at the Division Handcraft School.<\/p>\n

Any women who would like to join in are welcome and should phone Jeanette Westlake on (07) 5486-6161 for further information.<\/p>\n

* * *\u00a0<\/strong><\/center>Proston Branch<\/strong> held a craft day in March making all sorts of things to do with Easter, eg. eggs, bunnies and chocolates.<\/p>\n

The members have been preparing goods for a stall at the Wondai Autumn Garden Expo. This will be followed by their own Garden Day which will be held on May 25 in the Proston Community Hall when Rod Hultgren will be guest speaker.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/center>Tin Can Bay<\/strong> members have immersed themselves in the international work of QCWA.<\/p>\n

Their International Officer Irene Manwaring and Branch President Lorraine Bishop went to the state international weekend in March and brought back much interesting information. The members have since tried their hand at marbling paper.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/p>\n

Imbil<\/strong> members are also enjoying the study of Turkey, especially the food. \u00a0Their International Day will be held on June 11 and all are invited to sample some of the interesting food members will serve.<\/p>\n

* * *\u00a0<\/strong><\/center>Gympie Branch<\/strong> will hold its International Day on April 30, including a lunch so this should provide more Turkish food to try.<\/p>\n

These members have had a busy time with catering and, as a result, have been able to donate $1000 to the AGL Sunshine Coast Helicopter Service, $500 to the QCWA Public Rural Crisis Fund, $500 to the State Disaster Fund, $50 for handcraft prizes to Gympie Show Society, $50 to Middle Ridge Younger Set and $50 plus a patchwork rug to the Central Region Meeting Committee.<\/p>\n

Well done!<\/p>\n

* * *\u00a0<\/strong><\/center>The photography contest was well supported by Hivesville<\/strong> members as was dressmaking and public speaking.<\/p>\n

These members are well known for their cent sales. The next one will be just in time for Mother’s Day, \u00a0May 11, in the Mondure Hall. They have been trying out Turkish crafts of marbling paper and doing turkey stitch embroidery.<\/p>\n

* * *\u00a0<\/strong><\/center>Miva Branch<\/strong> members, along with most branches across the division and Queensland, will be very involved with Anzac Day events.<\/p>\n

Their’s is particularly challenging because the service will be held at their rooms. They have to find tarps, gazebos etc to extend their undercover area to cater for the crowd of more than 100.<\/p>\n

* * *\u00a0<\/strong><\/center>Kumbia Branch<\/strong> involves the local school children in its Anzac Day activities by sponsoring a poster competition in which the children compete for prizes provided by the branch.<\/p>\n

The members also co-ordinate the post march and service refreshments.<\/p>\n

* * *\u00a0<\/strong><\/center>Planning is well under way for the Training Day and Central Region Meeting to be held in Kingaroy<\/strong> on June 4-6 June when delegates will arrive from across Queensland.<\/p>\n

* * *\u00a0<\/strong><\/center>These are but some of the many activities undertaken by the QCWA members of the division. We manage to find much to add interest to our lives and help us to fundraise for the needs of the community.<\/p>\n

We always welcome new members so go along to one of the functions I have mentioned and make yourself known to a QCWA member there.<\/p>\n
