South Burnett Regional Council could create an extra eight parking bays in a congested part of Haly Street by replacing existing parallel bays with angled ones, but the project is not likely to happen until next year.<\/p>\n

At Wednesday’s Infrastructure standing committee meeting, Councillors were told the section of Haly Street between the Bunya Highway and William Street currently has 39 parallel carparks.<\/p>\n

The block is home to McDonalds, the Taabinga Family Practice, Little Peanuts Early Learning Centre, the Barambah Veterinary Surgery, Bunya Pines Family Practice and the Kingaroy Massage Studio.<\/p>\n

These were all high-traffic businesses where customers typically spent a long time, and this was creating regular parking shortages.<\/p>\n

To overcome this problem, Council officers have developed a concept design that would expand total parking spaces from 39 to 47 by replacing some of the parallel parking bays with angled parking.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The result would mean 22 parallel bays and 25 angled bays.<\/p>\n

Officers noted works were currently in progress on the Youngman Street intersection that need to be completed by the Department Transport and Main Roads.<\/p>\n

As the parking project was not included in Council’s 2021-22 capital works program,\u00a0they recommended councillors consider the concept design for future capital works funding.<\/p>\n
