The 2021 Relay For Life will be going ahead as planned at Kingaroy Showgrounds this weekend, but the pandemic has forced some changes on organisers.<\/p>\n

The annual event is a major fundraiser for Cancer Council Queensland … and also a very important date in many local residents’ diaries.<\/p>\n

There are 25 teams with more than 230 participants already registered to take part in this year’s event.<\/p>\n

The big change for 2021 is that the Relay won’t be an overnight marathon.<\/p>\n

Organiser Rowena Dionysius told southburnett.com.au<\/strong> the event would officially get under way at noon on Saturday but would not run overnight.<\/p>\n

It will wind up at 8:00pm however all the other traditional Relay For Life activities will still be included.<\/p>\n

Organisers have set a 2021 fundraising goal of $50,000 however this has already been smashed with $59,826 listed on the official South Burnett Relay page on Tuesday evening – boosted by the Ride 4 Relay’s amazing $30,000 effort!<\/p>\n

South Burnett Mayor Brett Otto and Cr Kathy Duff have set themselves a special fundraising task for this year’s Relay day … walk the entire South Burnett Rail Trail from Murgon to Kingaroy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The pair reckon they have been in training for the 43km walk, which will be raising funds for the South Burnett Regional Council’s Relay For Life team.<\/p>\n

They plan to drop in to the Wooroolin Cafe, Memerambi, Crawford State School and and Memorial Park, Kingaroy, before finishing at the showgrounds.<\/p>\n

Brett and Kathy have invited residents to join them for legs of the walk (times to be confirmed).<\/p>\n
