The musical “Wicked” is one of Broadway’s longest running shows – it’s been in constant production since 2003 – but you’d better hurry if you want to catch it in Kingaroy!<\/p>\n

The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society is putting on just five performances of the magical musical, billed as the “untold story of the witches of Oz”.<\/p>\n

This is the group’s last event for the year, and the 24 cast members have been practising hard for the past nine weeks to put on a spectacular show.<\/p>\n

“Wicked” relates the backstory to the “Wizard Of Oz”, weaving together the younger lives of Glinda (the Good Witch) and Elphaba (the Wicked Witch Of The West) before Dorothy does her stuff …<\/p>\n

“It has been quite an intensive rehearsal schedule,” SBMCS spokesperson Craig Reiger told southburnett.com.au<\/strong><\/p>\n

The production features a steampunk \/ Victorian design with special holographic paint in the backdrop.<\/p>\n

A lot of care has also gone into the special effects: Elphaba can defy gravity, there’s flying monkeys and of course, there’s the melting scene …<\/strong><\/p>\n

Craig said the transitions between scenes happens flawlessly behind the action, meaning the musical moves smoothly through each act.<\/p>\n

“It’s been a huge effort,” Craig admitted.<\/p>\n

“Wicked” will open at the Kingaroy Performing Arts Centre (KPAC) at 7:00pm on Saturday night (October 2).<\/strong><\/p>\n

This will be followed by a matinee performance at 1:00pm on Sunday (October 3); and a matinee (1:00pm) and evening performance (7:00pm) on Saturday, October 9.<\/p>\n

The last show will be a matinee (1:00pm) on Sunday, October 10.<\/p>\n
