April 18, 2013<\/strong><\/p>\n

Six people – including a 54-year-old Murgon woman and a five-year-old child – required hospitalisation after a high-speed collision on the Wide Bay Highway near Widgee this morning.<\/p>\n

A spokesman for the AGL Action Rescue Helicopter said it is believed one of the vehicles may have had a tyre blow-out.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred near the intersection with Abel Road at Lower Wonga about 11:00am.<\/p>\n

Emergency crews had to free some of the people who were trapped in the wrecks.<\/p>\n

AGL choppers from both Maroochydore and Bundaberg were called to the scene.<\/p>\n

Of the seven people involved, six required hospitalisation.<\/p>\n

The first of the AGL helicopters on scene assisted the Murgon woman, the driver of a maroon Holden, who suffered chest and other multi-trauma injuries.<\/p>\n

A five-year-old girl in the same vehicle suffered a head injury.<\/p>\n

She and the driver were airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women\u2019s Hospital in a stable condition.<\/p>\n

The Bundaberg chopper then flew a third female from the same vehicle to Nambour Base Hospital. The 58-year-old was suffering leg and pelvis fractures. She was in a serious but stable condition.<\/p>\n

A fourth occupant was taken by road to Gympie Hospital. A fifth person in the vehicle escaped with minor injuries.<\/p>\n

The female driver and sole occupant of the other vehicle was taken to Gympie Hospital by road ambulance.<\/p>\n
