The Kingaroy RSPCA will again be taking part in the annual Million Paws Walk, probably the biggest event on Australia’s canine calendar.<\/p>\n

This year the RSPCA hopes to raise $250,000 across the State for dogs in need.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy walk will be held on Sunday, May 19, at Memorial Park.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nearly 45,000 animals pass through RSPCA Qld Animal Care Centres every year.<\/p>\n

More than 18,000 of these are dogs that have been surrendered, abandoned or rescued by RSPCA inspectors.<\/p>\n

These dogs often need several hundred dollars\u2019 worth of vet care before they can be adopted, and yet nearly 100 per cent of RSPCA Qld\u2019s work is funded by donations from the community.<\/p>\n

“The cost to our community for these animals in need is in the millions,” RSPCA spokesman Michael Beatty said.<\/p>\n

“The RSPCA Million Paws Walk is a great day out with your best friend, while raising awareness for rescue dogs.<\/p>\n

“All funds raised help provide for the care and treatment of homeless and neglected dogs who simply deserve a second chance.<\/p>\n

“This year there are 28 walk locations throughout Queensland and don\u2019t forget, even if you can\u2019t walk, you can still fundraise.<\/p>\n

“The activities vary at each walk but you can guarantee that it will be an event not to be missed by pooches or their human companions.”<\/p>\n

To get involved, register online<\/a><\/strong> and pay the registration fee. Walkers can then create an online fundraising page to track their sponsorship.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year we\u2019re encouraging event-goers to try and raise $150 each,” Mr Beatty said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Each year, RSPCA Queensland must find $39 million to help animals, and we receive less than 1 per cent of that figure in government funding.<\/p>\n

“Just $150 will provide an animal with a second chance at a long and happy life, so we hope to see lots of fundraisers participate.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
