South Burnett Mayor Brett Otto<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

South Burnett Regional Council has agreed to\u00a0take part in the planning process for the development of a Regional Waste\u00a0Management Infrastructure strategy.<\/p>\n

At its Community Standing Committee last week, councillors voted to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Darling Downs and South West\u00a0Queensland Council of Mayors (DDSW-CoM), subject to Mayor Brett Otto having voting rights\u00a0at meetings which consider the development of the Regional Waste Management plan.<\/p>\n

Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio, who chairs DDSW-CoM, wrote to Mayor Otto recently to invite him to become part of the planning process.<\/p>\n

DDSW-CoM is made up of mayors from\u00a0Balonne, Bulloo, Goondiwindi, Maranoa, Murweh, Paroo, Quilpie,\u00a0Southern Downs, Toowoomba and Western Downs councils.<\/p>\n

They recently endorsed an in-principle proposal to develop a Regional Waste\u00a0Management and Infrastructure Plan.<\/p>\n

This plan would become a key strategic document for the group in guiding future waste\u00a0management within the region.<\/strong><\/p>\n

SBRC officers recommended that council take part as it could benefit from potential developments in infrastructure capacity.<\/p>\n

Lockyer Valley council has also been invited to become a part in the plan.<\/p>\n

Mayor Otto suggested Mayor Antonio be approached to suggest an invitation also be extended to Cherbourg Council to see if they also wanted to be involved.<\/p>\n
